The 2015 Lifeguard Season is coming up fast!
Official Dates, Mark your Calendar:
Tryout: This year we will hold 2 official Tryout days
Saturday May 2nd, 2014 & Saturday May 9th, 2014 @ 10:00 AM
Location: Lifeguard Shack (located at the south end of the KB Pier)
Requirements: 16 years of age. You DO NOT have to be CPR certified or lifeguard certified.
How it works: The tryout will consist of 1.25 miles, followed by a half mile swim directly after your run (no break). You will be timed and it will be extremely competitive. After the physical test, everyone will meet back at the Fire Department for random interviews. If you are selected to continue, you will have two weeks of training (May 11- May 22 from 4:30 p.m - until) before the season begins. We will train you in everything you need to know in those two weeks, including: Basic Victim Rescue, Multiple Victim Rescue, Advanced Rescue Techniques, Unconscious Victim Rescue, CPR and First Aid, Medical Application on the Beach, and Advanced Medical Application on the Beach. The two week training period will also consist of extreme physical conditioning, which will push you harder and faster each day. If you can make it through the two weeks of training, you will officially begin work as a Kure Beach Lifeguard Memorial Day weekend.
Next Step: Do not worry about filling out an application until the week before tryouts. You will be able to pick them up at the Kure Beach Fire Department. You also do not need to obtain any certifications or classes as we will teach you everything you need to know once hired. Make sure you start training immediately for the tryout and the training period. Good luck and I look forward to meeting everyone.
