CHALLENGE BEGINS ON OCTOBER 17TH

The Cape Fear Commuter Challenge will take place October 17-30.  People can participate by taking the following modes of transportation to work, to run errands, to take the kids to school, etc.:

- bicycle

- walk/run

- carpool/vanpool

- ride the bus

- drive an electric car

- drive a hybrid car

- skateboard

There are lots of great prizes - kayak rentals, stand-up paddle board rentals, staycations at local hotels, local restaurant gift cards, cool stuff and services from the local bike shops, free car washes/detailing, and a lot more 'goodies'.  Winners will be announced November 4th

Participating is easy. Simply download the free app from your app store, or visit www.myopenroad.com and set up your profile. Select the mode of transportation you are using, hit 'start' when you are ready to leave, and 'stop' when you have arrived at your destination. The app will calculate the pounds of carbon dioxide you have saved from being emitted into the air by using your mode of transportation.

You can find more information about the challenge at www.wmpo.org/tdm or contact Adrienne Harrington at Adrienne.Harrington@WilmingtonNC.gov or 910-341-7806.
