The Community Center is served by a dedicated group of Kure Beach residents who belong to our Community Center Committee. More information on this all-volunteer committee can be viewed under the Committees tab. In addition to hosting weekly activities, the committee also sponsors these special events for the community:
- Annual Community Center Spirit Award Banquet – to honor the spirit of our community’s dedicated volunteers. Residents are encouraged to submit nominations for their favorite community volunteers. A Lifetime Achievement Award, Annual Award and Youth Award are given out during the ceremony portion of the banquet. This is a great time for our residents to come and show their support for those dedicated men and women who give their “all” for our community.
- Annual Barbecue – held every August; the barbecue features a delicious menu of Eastern North Carolina pulled-pork barbecue, cole slaw, baked beans, buttered-parsley potatoes, a roll, tea or coffee and your choice of a homemade dessert. This is just a plain ol’, good time to come and have some great food and conversation with neighbors, relatives, visitors and friends. If you don't have time to chat, the volunteers will box up a dinner for you to take home. How's that for service!
- Three Community Dances – held each year, featuring live music. You can join in on the dance for a nominal cost of just $8.00 per person or $15.00 for two! The dances, held from 7:30–10:00pm, range from ballroom and line dancing to rock, country and more. It’s not just for couples; if you love to dance, please come! Watch the Island Gazette for dates.
Using the Community Center
The Community Center is available for use by residents, non-residents, and organizations alike. Special events such as reunions, birthday parties, business meetings and even small wedding receptions have been held in the Community Center. If you would like to book the Community Center for your special event, please call 910-458-8944 and leave a message on the voicemail. Voicemail is checked every day, and someone will call you back within 24-48 hours to assist you.
Directions
At the Town's only stoplight intersection located at the intersection of Fort Fisher Boulevard and K Avenue, turn west onto K Avenue. Then after passing Big Daddy’s Restaurant, turn onto 3rd Avenue. The community center is just ahead on the right.
