Defective Garbage Carts
Our Code of Ordinances states that a defective (damaged) Garbage Cart must be replaced immediately at the cost of the owner for $80 each. If you have a defective Garbage Cart, please call or come to Town Hall to purchase a replacement. Continuing to use a damaged Garbage Cart will result in a violation of the Town of Kure Beach Code of Ordinances, and a fine will be assessed to you.

Garbage Collection
Garbage is collected every Monday for all of Fort Fisher Blvd, Atlantic Ave, Spot Ln and properties south of K Avenue. Tuesday collection is for all other properties north of K Avenue. The Code of Ordinances specifies that your Garbage Cart should be placed in front of your premises only after sunset on the day prior to pickup and must be returned to your home by midnight on the day of pickup.

Holiday Garbage Collection & Christmas Trees
Please note that there will be NO special trash pick-up during Christmas week. Christmas trees will be picked up throughout the first 2 weeks of January. Please put your discarded Christmas trees on your curb/property line for pick-up during that time. Anytime the sanitation division is off for a Monday Holiday, garbage collection is pushed back one day (Monday collection on Tuesday, Tuesday collection on Wednesday). The following Monday Holidays are observed by the Town: President’s Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day. Please check the News area of our homepage during other Holidays for future collection notifications.

License Tax (Decal)
We are often asked by our residents (temporary or permanent) why it is necessary to pay the annual License Tax in order to obtain a decal. To summarize part of the License Tax ordinance: each owner of a motor vehicle that displays a current NC license plate and who resides full-time within the town (temporary or permanent) shall pay an annual License Tax for each vehicle in the amount of $5.00 for which the resident will receive a decal to affix to his/her vehicle. If the decal is not purchased by March 31st, a $10 penalty will be charged in addition to the License Tax, for a total of $15. Any person who violates this ordinance shall be subject to a civil citation in the amount of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) for the first offense, and the second offense shall subject the person to a misdemeanor charge. For all non-resident owners and all new residents, the decal is available at the cost of $5.00 year-round.

Decals by mail - The License Tax to purchase a decal may be paid by mailing a copy of the vehicle registration, the vehicle owner's name, the Kure Beach property address, a check for the appropriate amount and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Decal Department, Kure Beach Town Hall, 117 Settlers Lane, Kure Beach, NC 28449.
