Public Works Divisions

Water

This division’s pledge is to produce good quality, safe drinking water to the residents and visitors of the Town of Kure Beach while continuing to improve and upgrade its system for the future. The water system consists of approximately 15 miles of transition line, close to 2,000 water connections, 5 wells (soon to be 6) and a 300,000 gallon elevated water tower. A second water tower, located on Assembly Avenue, should be completed and in service by October 1, 2007. The responsibilities of our Water division are:

  • Conducting daily inspections of the system, taking chlorine residual readings and following a strict guideline of procedures to ensure that the system is being maintained properly
  • Repairing all defective fire hydrants that the Fire Department finds during their inspections
  • Taking water meter readings each month from residents and businesses to ensure timely and accurate billing
