Summer is here and with the influx of folks on the beach, we ask that you help us keep everyone safe by observing the following ordinances designed to provide public safety and an enjoyable time for all.
1.Beach equipment may not be left on the beach or in the dunes after 7 pm until 8 am the next morning. Yes, this means tents, umbrellas, chairs, nets, fishing gear, etc. These items will be removed by the lifeguards and may be retrieved at the Fire Station at 117 Settlers Lane. We know this is an inconvenience for some, but it is a safety hazard for others.
2.No fires, grills or alcohol on the beach. If you dig 'the biggest hole ever', please fill it back in before you leave, so it won't be a trip hazard for someone else.
3.And the one we receive the most complaints about is no dogs on the beach at all from April 1st to Sept. 30th. We apologize to the doggies for depriving them of the beach, but do so we must.
Most importantly, listen to the lifeguards! They are there for your protection. Observe the flags flying at each lifeguard stand: green means calm conditions and happy swimming; yellow means possible rip currents so be careful; red means definite rip currents so be extra cautious and stay close to shore; and black means no lifeguard on duty, swim at your own risk.
Here's wishing everyone a happy, healthy, safe summer.
