KB TOWN COUNCIL REQUESTS YOUR SUPPORT OF SENATE BILL 58

May 09, 2013 10:26

We need your support for NC Senate Bill 58, which will allow a percentage of boater registration fees to fund needed maintenance of Carolina Beach Inlet.  This and other shallow draft inlets are critical to North Carolina for boating safety, offshore rescues, jobs, seafood industry, recreation and tourism. According to SB 58, as passed by the Senate on May 7, 2013, boater certificate fees will be increased according the size of the boat. The Wildlife Resources Commission would transfer, on a quarterly basis, 45 percent of each one-year certificate of number fee and 45 percent of each three-year certificate of number fee collected under the numbering provisions of G.S. 75A-5 to the Shallow Draft Navigation Channel Dredging Fund. This would allow boats to have continuous access to the Atlantic Ocean through inlets such as the Carolina Beach inlet at the north end of Pleasure Island. Please contact the State Legislators who represent your county, and ask them to support Senate Bill 58.
