Department of Motor Vehicles (Licensing & Registration)
Whether you’re getting your driver’s license switched over to a North Carolina license, or you’re registering your vehicle in North Carolina for the first time, you’ll want to access the Department of Motor Vehicles website at www.ncdot.org/dmv/ to find out what information you’ll need to take with you. Even if you have a current driver's license in another state, the DMV requires that you pass a written exam before obtaining a North Carolina driver’s license. You’ll need to pick up a booklet from the DMV to study for the exam. The closest DMV office to Kure Beach is located at the South Square Plaza in Wilmington: 2390 Carolina Beach Road, Suite 108. They are open Monday through Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm. For more information, call 910-763-6752.

Garbage Collection & Christmas Tree Pickup
Garbage is collected every Monday for all of Fort Fisher Blvd, Atlantic Ave, Spot Ln and properties south of K Avenue. Tuesday collection is for all other properties north of K Avenue. Town ordinance allows you to place your garbage cart in front of your premises for pickup after sunset on the day prior to pickup, and it must be returned to your home by midnight on the day of pickup. Please check the News area of our homepage during Holidays to see if the pickup schedule has been altered. Note that there will be NO special trash pick-up during Christmas week. Christmas trees will be picked up throughout the first 2 weeks of January. Please put your discarded Christmas trees on your curb/property line for pick-up during that time.

Recycling Service
Waste Management is the company contracted by the Town of Kure Beach to collect your recyclables. If you need a recycle bin, please fill out this Recycle Bin Form and bring it to Kure Beach Town Hall to pick one up. Recycle pickup is conducted every Monday and bins MUST be out on your curb by 7:00 a.m. on the day of pickup. You must return your bin to your property by midnight on the day of pickup. Brown paper grocery bags and small cardboard boxes can be used occasionally for overflow recyclables, if necessary; do NOT use plastic bags. You may also take your recyclables to the recycle dumpster located at the Moose Lodge in Wilmington. ACCEPTABLE/UNACCEPTABLE RECYCLE ITEMS Directions to Moose Lodge Recycle Dumpster: Going over the Snow’s Cut Bridge, continue north until you come to where Carolina Beach Road intersects with College Road (Monkey Junction). Take a left at that intersection, continuing north on College Road. About ½ mile up Carolina Beach Road, you will pass the Moose Lodge on your left. To get to the Moose Lodge, you’ll need to take a U-turn. The recycle dumpster is located at the front of the building. Call Waste Management at 799-5256 for additional information or to report an uncollected bin. For more recycling information go to www.nhcgov.com/AgnAndDpt/ENVM/Pages/DeptInfo.aspx#.

According to the Kure Beach Code of Ordinances regarding license tax, each owner of a motor vehicle who displays a current NC license plate and resides within the town must pay a $5 license tax in order to purchase a town decal, annually. If you don't purchase your decal until after March 31st, a $10 penalty is added to the $5 decal fee.
