Recycling Service
RECYCLING INFORMATION FROM WASTE MANAGEMENT
ACCEPTABLE/UNACCEPTABLE RECYCLE ITEMS
Waste Management handles the Town's recycling pickup. All residences should have a recycle cart with yellow lid. Anything that will not fit into your cart will not be picked up by Waste Management. Do not leave overflow on the side of the cart for pickup. You should take all overflow recyclables to the New Hanover County Recycle Center, located at the Moose Lodge on Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington. See directions, below.
Waste Management will follow the same pickup schedule as your regular garbage pickup. Please note, however, that Waste Management works on all holidays except Christmas Day. Therefore, if Christmas Day falls on your normal recycle pickup day, recycle will be picked up the next business day. Waste Management will not vary its schedule otherwise. Your cart must be placed curbside by 7:00 am on the day of pickup or there is no guarantee your recycling will be disposed of.
If your recycle cart becomes damaged or lost, please fill out this Recycle Cart Form, bring or mail it to Kure Beach Town Hall and we will order a new cart for you from Waste Management.
Directions to Moose Lodge Recycle Dumpsters: After crossing Snow’s Cut Bridge, continue north until you come to Monkey Junction at the corner of Carolina Beach and College Roads. Take a left to continue on Carolina Beach Road. The Moose Lodge is approximately ½ mile ahead on your left.
Registering to Vote in North Carolina
To register to vote in North Carolina you must sign a voter declaration attesting that you are a U.S. Citizen, that you will have been a resident of North Carolina and of New Hanover County for 30 days before the election, that you will be at least 18 years old by the next general election and that you are not registered nor will you vote in any other county
or state. Please note that, if you have been convicted of a felony, your rights of citizenship must have been restored to be eligible to vote. You can obtain a voter registration form from Town Hall.
Town License Tax (Decal)
All full-time residents of Kure Beach are required to pay a license tax at the beginning of each year in order to obtain a vehicle decal. According to the Kure Beach Code of Ordinances regarding license tax, each owner of a motor vehicle that has a current NC license plate and resides within the town must pay a $5 license tax in order to purchase a town decal, annually. For new residents, the first calendar year your license tax remains at $5. Go to the Current Residents section of our website for information on the license tax after the first year.
Vehicle Licensing & Registration
Whether you’re getting your driver’s license switched over to a North Carolina license, or you’re registering your vehicle in North Carolina for the first time, you’ll want to access the Department of Motor Vehicles
website at www.ncdot.org/dmv/ to find out what information you’ll need to take with you. Even if you have a current driver's license in another state, the DMV requires that you pass a written exam before obtaining a North Carolina driver’s license. You’ll need to pick up a booklet
from the DMV to study for the exam. The closest DMV office to Kure Beach is located at the South Square Plaza in Wilmington: 2390 Carolina Beach Road, Suite 108. They are open Monday through Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm. For more information, call 910-763-6752.
Water/Sewer & Garbage Cart Set-up
Please print, read and complete this Water/Sewer & Garbage Cart Application and information sheet and bring or mail it to Town Hall to set up your water and sewer service and to purchase your garbage cart. If you have questions regarding the form or the information provided, please call 910-458-8216 and ask for the Water/Sewer Department. The form is also available at Town Hall, if you are unable to print it from your computer.
All water/sewer payments are the responsibility of the property owner, per the Town of Kure Beach Code of Ordinances. We only accept cash or checks made payable to the Town of Kure Beach. No credit cards, please. See Fee Schedule for rates.
