This is an update from Kure Beach's Emergency Operations Coordinator as of Saturday, October 8th at 8:30 am.
Town services are staffed and currently dealing with the beginning impacts of the storm. The start of a long rain and wind event are evident with current sustained winds of 30-35 mph winds. Reminder the bridge will close at 45 mph sustained winds. The staged pumps are being monitored by public works and the town has seen a few power blips already.
The expectation is that wind and rain will increase, with the town likely to see winds in excess of 65 mph sustained and gusts exceeding hurricane force speeds. All citizens are reminded that a curfew will go into effect for non-emergency personnel once the bridge has been closed due to wind, and that emergency services may be unable to respond due to safety concerns.
Please stay safe and shelter in place.
