Polar Plunge
As a reminder to all Kure Beach residents and visitors, the Annual Polar Plunge & 5K event to benefit the New Hanover County Special Olympics will be held in Kure Beach this Saturday, February 15th. The event will bring increased traffic and road closures to the downtown area, starting early Saturday morning. Please keep this information in mind as you plan your travels on Saturday. The schedule of events is provided below for those wishing to participate and/or observe.

11:00 AM - Gates Open
Enjoy music, silent auction, raffle, costume contest, food, & more.
On-Site Registration/Packet Pickup Opens
12:00 PM - Costume Contest
1:00 PM - On-Site Registration/Packet Pickup Closes
1:35 PM - 5K Run & 1 Mile Fun Walk Starts
2:00 PM - Raffle Closes
2:30 PM - Silent Auction Closes
3:00 PM - PLUNGE Line Up
Area 1 - Special Olympians & Plungers Under 15
Area 2 - Plungers 15 & Up
Area 3 - Plungers & Pooches

Road Closure Information:
- K Avenue east of Fort Fisher Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue between K and L Avenues will be closed starting early Saturday morning. The area should be opened back up to vehicle traffic by 5:00 pm Saturday evening.
- Travel along Atlantic Avenue, between L and N Avenues will be restricted during the race for runner’s safety. The run starts at 1:30 pm. Also, vehicle traffic along the race route may experience slight delays during the race.
