MESSAGE FROM EMERGENCY MANAGER
Kure Beach Residents and Property Owners,
The Town is closely tracking Hurricane Michael. Current forecasts have Kure Beach under a Tropical Storm Warning with winds from 39 to 73 mph expected in the next 24 hours along with "flooding rain" of 3-5 inches. Department Heads are taking the following actions as preparation and citizens should closely monitor this storm. No evacuations in Kure Beach are recommended at this time, however all citizens should survey their property and ensure that all items are secured. Please review debris in your yard, especially if it could be washed to block storm water drains in your neighborhood.
It is likely that the Town could have power outages during the storm. Consider all down lines as energized and report them via 911 to the Kure Beach Fire Department.
Public Works will be ensuring that storm water drains are clear in preparation for the large amounts of rain forecast. Additionally, generators will be staged in the event of power loss to ensure that our water system remains pressurized and to allow pumping of sewer lift stations. NOTE to Citizens – during a power outage, use of water and sewer should be minimized as both systems will be operating at a reduced capacity.
The Fire Department will be staffing an additional engine company for Thursday for the entire 24 hours. The department is expecting to experience a higher than normal call volume regarding power lines that could come down due to higher than normal wind speeds, ultimately creating fire hazards.
The Police Department is watching the storm closely and will be adding additional personnel if needed throughout the storm based on conditions.
Building Inspections will report any additional damage caused by this storm for reporting to the proper authorities. Report damage of $1,000 or more to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Town Hall is planned to be open normal hours Wednesday and Thursday based on the current forecast.
During the storm, please be safe, as high winds can be potentially hazardous.
