OCEAN FRONT PARK UPDATE
At the November 16, 2010 meeting, the Town Council voted to proceed with the redesign of the Pavilion (Version 2) to be located at the Ocean Front Park. Council also voted to revise the parking in the area in front of the park to allow 4 spaces on the west side of Atlantic Avenue (2 on the north side and two on the south side) and to remove only 6 spaces on the east side of Atlantic Avenue.
PUBLIC NOTICE: SPECIAL COMMITTEE MEETING
The Stormwater & Environmental Committee will hold a special meeting at Town Hall on Thursday,11/18/10 at 5:00 pm in preparation for the Stormwater/Environmental Strategic Plan. This meeting is open to the pubic and all interested parties are encouraged to attend.
PUBLIC NOTICE: PUBLIC HEARING 11/16/10 at 5:00 pm
Kure Beach Town Council will hold a Public Hearing on 11/16/10 at 5:00 pm to receive public comment on the design of the pavilion and restroom buildings at the Ocean Front Park property. Based on comments received from the Ocean Front Park committee and the public at a committee meeting held November 1, 2010, the pavilion has been redesigned to remove the tower and roll down doors and lower the height of the building. The architect has provided two revisions as artist renderings for public comment and Council's consideration. Building height on both revisions is around 20 ft with the tallest point being the cupola at 28 feet.
PUBLIC NOTICE: PUBLIC HEARING 11/16/10 at 6:30 pm
Kure Beach Town Council will hold a Public Hearing on 11/16/10 at 6:30 pm as the first item of business at its November 2010 regular Town Council meeting to receive public comment on proposed amendments to add Section 5-106.1 "Unsafe building condemned in localities," and Section 5-106.2 "Action in event of failure to take corrective action" to the existing ordinance in the Code on condemnations in Chapter 5, Buildings and Building Regulations, Article V Minimum Housing Code. All interested persons are encouraged to attend.
FEMA OPENS DISASTER RECOVERY CENTER IN WILMINGTON 2010
FEMA has opened a Disaster Recovery Center in Wilmington for homeowners, renters and businesses with damage from Tropical Storm Nicole. The center is located at the New Hanover Government Complex at 230 Government Center Drive and is scheduled to be open from Monday, November 8 through Saturday, November 13. It will be closed on Thursday, November 11 for Veterans Day. Hours of operation are 8:30 am to 6:30 pm.
DISC GOLF PRE-CONSTRUCTION MEETING - 11/8/10 @ 6:30 pm
The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board will hold a pre-construction meeting for the Disc Golf Course on Monday, November 8th at 6:30 pm in the Council room at Town Hall. All interested persons are encouraged to attend.
TENNIS COURTS @ JOE EAKES PARK: OPEN FOR PLAY!!!
Please note that the hours of operation for Joe Eakes Park's fields, playgrounds and other facilities are from Sunrise to Sunset, except for the tennis courts. The tennis courts are open for play from Sunrise to 11:00 pm. ENJOY!
OCEAN FRONT PARK UTILIZATION COMMITTEE
On Monday, 11/1/10 at 6:00 pm at the Kure Beach Community Center, the Ocean Front Park Utilization Committee will meet for a Design Charette with Lisle Architecture and Design, the designers of the pavilion and restroom buildings at the Ocean Front Park property. All interested persons are encouraged to attend.
KURE BEACH'S NEWEST COMMISSIONER
At a special meeting of the Kure Beach Town Council, held on October 11, 2010, council voted unanimously to appoint Emilie Swearingen to fill the commissioner vacancy. Commissioner Swearingen will serve on council until the next election in November of 2011 when the remaining two years of former Commissioner Tim Fuller's term will be on the ballot for election.

The Mayor of Kure Beach has called a special meeting to be held on Friday, October 22, 2010 at 12:00 Noon to discuss design and placement of buildings at the Ocean Front Park property. All interested persons are encouraged to attend.
PUBLIC NOTICE: OCTOBER TOWN COUNCIL MEETING
At the regular Town Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 19, 2010, Lisle Architecture and Design, the architectural firm that is designing the pavilion and public restrooms for the Ocean Front Park, will be the first item on the agenda beginning at 6:30 pm to take comments and questions from committee members and the public regarding the design of the buildings.

RECENT ORDINANCE CHANGES
TOWN LIFTS STATE OF EMERGENCY
Town Council held an emergency meeting early this morning, 10/4/10, and voted to officially lift the town's State of Emergency status at 9:35 am.
TOWN DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY
In response to New Hanover County's decision to declare a State of Emergency, Kure Beach Town Council met in an emergency session on 9/29/10 and voted to declared a State of Emergency for Kure Beach at 5:35 pm due to Tropical Storm Nicole. Governor Beverly Perdue declared a State of Emergency for North Carolina on 9/28/10. Heavy rains and high winds are expected throughout the day with flash floods possible. If you decide to evacuate or if you will be on the road, try to do so before dark.
ACCEPTING LETTERS OF APPLICATION FOR TEMPORARY APPOINTMENT TO COUNCIL
DEADLINE: MONDAY, OCTOBER 4 at 5:00 pm
Kure Beach Commissioner Tim Fuller has resigned his position as commissioner due to personal reasons effective immediately. Commissioner Fuller was elected to office in 2009 for a four year term which expires in 2013. As per General Statute 160A -63, Town Council may appoint a replacement to serve as commissioner until the next election which will be held in November 2011. At that time, the remaining two years of the term will be placed on the ballot for election. At a special meeting held by Town Council on September 20, 2010, Council voted to accept letters of application from candidates interested in being appointed to serve on Council until November 2011. Letters of application should include qualifications and reasons for wishing to serve and be addressed to the attention of the Town Clerk, 117 Settlers Lane, Kure Beach, NC 28449. Letters of interest must be received by 5 pm on Monday, October 4, 2010.Town Council has also called a special meeting for Monday, October 11, 2010 at 6:30 pm for the purpose of interviewing candidates that have submitted a letter of application to be appointed to serve on Council until November 2011.
