NOTIFICATION OF DISCHARGE OF UNTREATED WASTEWATER
General Statute 143-215.1C requires that the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment works issue a press release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters. In accordance with that regulation, the following news release has been prepared and issued to media in the affected county:
The Town of Kure Beach had a discharge of untreated wastewater on October 4, 2015 of an estimated 25,000 gallons at the manhole located at the intersection of Fort Fisher Boulevard South and H Avenue and approximately 5,000 gallons at the manhole in the 100 block of K Avenue. The untreated wastewater was discharged into the Atlantic Ocean.
The pump station located at H Avenue was repaired within two hours and placed back into service. Due to the severity of the storm, it took several hours to contain the sewer release.
The Division of Water Resources was notified of the event on October 5, 2015 and is reviewing the matter. For more information contact the Town of Kure Beach at 910-458-5816.
