Kure Beach Residents, Property Owners and Visitors:
New Hanover County and Kure Beach Emergency Management continue to monitor a tropical disturbance, currently identified as Potential Tropical Cyclone 9. Current projections as of 5am Saturday 9/27 show it impacting Kure Beach with significant rain and possible tropical storm winds late Monday into Tuesday.
Town Departments continue finalizing preparations through the weekend and will have all preparations complete by Sunday evening.
TRASH PICKUP will be DELAYED until Wednesday (South of town) and Thursday (North of town) to allow Public Works personnel to focus on any Storm Water system issues with the projected significant rain. ENSURE that your trash cans are secure to prevent impact to local drainage and garbage blowing in the town with the winds.
Police and Fire are staffing to support the Emergency Operations Plan. The Town will make decisions on Town Hall operations day by day based on conditions as they occur. They will be communicated in the daily update. As of today, the current plan is to have normal operations at Town Hall on Monday.
As a resident or property owner, please take the weekend to ensure that your property is prepared and that you are ready to execute your PERSONAL Hurricane plan with your family. Specifically, please ensure that all debris is secured to prevent impacting your neighbors or the storm water systems early next week, either through windblown impact or blocking drainage systems.
With this system as well Hurricane Humberto in the Atlantic, carefully evaluate Ocean Conditions prior to going swimming. Wave conditions could significantly change as these storms impact the sea state.
The Town will send updates daily through the Town’s communication process. Ask your neighbors if they are signed up with our communication system and if not please direct them to sign up for both Kure Beach and New Hanover County Emergency Communications with the following links :
