Kure Beach residents, property owners and visitors:
New Hanover County and Kure Beach Emergency Management is closely monitoring a tropical disturbance, currently identified as Invest AL94 or 94L, which has the potential to develop into a tropical storm and impact our area beginning late Monday and continuing into Tuesday. While there is considerable uncertainty regarding the exact track and intensity of this system, residents and business leaders should begin to review their preparedness plans.
It is important to note that there is currently no active named storm. The developing system, Invest 94L, is the area of concern for the U.S. Southeast coast. The further development and intensification of this system is forecasted to occur this weekend. It would be named after it strengthens into a tropical storm. Current models indicate suggest this intensification and naming may not occur until Friday/Saturday, with potential impacts occurring Monday/Tuesday.
The Town staff is ensuring that the Town is prepared for a Monday storm impact. As a resident or property owner, please take the weekend to ensure that your property is prepared and that you are ready to execute your PERSONAL Hurricane plan with your family. Specifically, please ensure that all debris is secured to prevent impacting your neighbors or the storm water systems early next week, either through windblown impact or blocking drainage systems.
With this system as well Hurricane Humberto in the Atlantic, carefully evaluate Ocean Conditions prior to going swimming. Wave conditions could significantly change as these storms impact the sea state.
We will send updates daily through the Town’s communication process. Ask your neighbors if they are signed up with our communication system and if not please direct them to sign up for both Kure Beach and New Hanover County Emergency Communications with the links on the following website:

Current Forecast and Potential Impacts:
The National Weather Service and local forecasts indicate an increase in moisture and wind associated with this developing system. For the Monday and Tuesday timeframe, New Hanover County could expect:
- Rainfall: The potential for widespread, heavy rainfall exists, which could lead to localized flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
- Strong Winds: Winds are expected to increase, with the possibility of tropical-storm-force gusts. These winds could cause power outages, damage to trees, and make travel difficult.
- Coastal Impacts: Rip currents and hazardous marine conditions are also likely along our coastline.
Respectfully,
David W. Heglar, PE
