The Kure Beach Community Center Committee offers informative 45-60 minute presentations on a variety of useful topics at the Kure Beach Community Center. The February topic is Getting Started with Medicare and will take place Tuesday, February 10th at 7pm. This program is presented by representatives of the Senior Health Insurance Information Program of the New Hanover County Senior Resource Center.

The Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program, or SHIIP, is a consumer information division of the North Carolina Department of Insurance that strives to assist Medicare beneficiaries in making well-informed health insurance choices.  The New Hanover County Senior Resource Center SHIIP volunteers offer free, unbiased information and education to residents about their Medicare options, to include Medicare Part D, supplement plans, and other information.  SHIIP counselors also provide educational presentations in their communities to assist with Medicare planning and updates on Medicare changes.

“Getting Started with Medicare” is an overview of Medicare basics, Traditional Medicare vs. Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D, and misconceptions of Medicare.  The counselor will also provide information on assistance programs and how and when to enroll in Medicare.
